Eugene's Whistle & Spur

by Eugene

Whistle & Spur adds a whistle that calls a saddled horse, donkey or mule to the player, plus a spur that makes a ridden horse run faster.

FabricServer required, client optionalGNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20 – 1.20.4

What it does

Pressing H while not riding summons a tamed horse, donkey or mule that is saddled and within 128 blocks. The animal neighs, finds its way over, and teleports closer first when needed, then follows the player for a while. Mounts that are leashed or ridden by someone else do not respond to the whistle. The 128-block distance can be changed in the config.

Pressing H while riding spurs the horse. It takes a small injury and speeds up for a time, and a second spur press raises it to a higher speed level. The mod is a remastered version of the Horse Whistle data pack, and it is published for Fabric only, across the 1.20 – 1.20.4 range. It is a server-required mod with an optional client side, and it needs Cloth Config API. The code is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later.

Key features

  1. Whistle recall

A tamed, saddled mount within range answers the whistle and comes to the player from any distance up to the limit.

  2. Two-level spur

A ridden horse can be spurred for a speed boost, and a second press makes it faster, at the cost of a small injury.

  3. Ender horse armor

A new armor item lets the mount be called from anywhere and revived if it dies.

  4. Teleport mechanic

A mount that is too far away is moved closer before it follows the player.

Use cases

Long journeys

Players who ride across large maps can call a mount back to them without walking to the stable.

Who it’s for: Survival players and server owners who keep horses on a shared world and want a whistle-based recall instead of manual commands.
