Eternal Furnace

by veizakn1

Eternal Furnace lets a player place Hellfire Netherrack under a regular furnace so the furnace gains infinite fuel, at the cost of slower smelting.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 26.2

What it does

The mod adds one new block, Hellfire Netherrack, crafted from Netherrack and Flint Steel. Flint Steel is consumed in the recipe. Placing the block directly beneath a vanilla furnace makes the furnace burn without any fuel in its slot, so the fuel slot stays empty while the Hellfire is active. Coal, charcoal, lava buckets and other fuels are no longer required in that state.

Smelting under Hellfire is slower than normal cooking, and the slowdown is calculated from each recipe's own time, so recipes with custom durations are supported. Existing fuel already in the slot finishes burning before the Hellfire takes over, and smelting progress carries over when the furnace switches between normal fuel and Hellfire. Removing the block returns the furnace to vanilla behavior. The mod only works with the regular vanilla furnace.

Files are published for Forge on 1.20.1 and for NeoForge on 26.2. The code is open source under the MIT License, and both the server and every player need the mod, because the environment is client and server.

Key features

  1. Hellfire Netherrack block

A new block crafted from Netherrack and Flint Steel, which gives the otherwise unused Netherrack a purpose.

  2. Infinite furnace fuel

A vanilla furnace placed on top of Hellfire Netherrack burns indefinitely without any fuel in its slot.

  3. Slower smelting trade-off

Smelting under the Hellfire is slower than normal, which is the cost of free fuel.

  4. Progress and fuel handling

Smelting progress carries over when switching between fuel types, and fuel already burning is allowed to finish.

  5. Durability on Flint Steel

Crafting the block costs one durability on Flint Steel, and the item breaks normally once its durability runs out.

Questions

Does Eternal Furnace need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Which loader should be used for Eternal Furnace?

Forge has a file for 1.20.1 and NeoForge has a file for 26.2. The game versions with files are 1.20.1 and 26.2, so a player on another version has no build to install.

Does Hellfire Netherrack work with a blast furnace?

No. The mod only works with the regular vanilla furnace, and removing the block returns the furnace to normal vanilla behavior.

What the author says

Craft Hellfire Netherrack, place it directly beneath a regular Furnace, and the Furnace gains infinite fuel — no coal, charcoal, lava buckets, or other fuel required. The trade-off is speed: when powered by Hellfire, smelting takes 1.8× longer than normal.
