Engravings

by nactris

Engravings lets players attach lore to items by combining them with books and anvils, and adjusts renaming costs through a config file.

FabricAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.20.6

What it does

Lore items can be created by combining a book with an item on an anvil. Each page of the book becomes a separate line of lore, and the text can be copied with its colors intact. Renaming works through a name tag: a name tag combined with a book takes its name from the first page, and a renamed tag can be combined with an item to give it that name.

The config file controls what each action costs in experience levels, and setting a cost to a negative value disables that mechanic. Engravings needs oωo (owo-lib) to run. The mod targets Fabric only and is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Files cover 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, with 1.0.1 for 1.20.6 as the latest build.

Key features

  1. Lore on items

Books combined with items on an anvil add their pages to the item as lore lines.

  2. Name tags from books

A name tag combined with a book takes its name from the first page of that book.

  3. Renaming with tags

A renamed tag can be combined with an item to apply the tag's name to it.

  4. Color-preserving text

Colored text in the book is copied over with its formatting intact.

  5. Configurable costs

The experience cost of renaming and adding lore can be changed, and a negative value turns that mechanic off.

Questions

Does Engravings need oωo (owo-lib)?

Yes. oωo (owo-lib) is a required dependency and must be installed alongside Engravings.

Which loaders does Engravings support?

Only Fabric. The mod has no Forge, NeoForge or Quilt files.

Can the experience cost of lore be changed?

Yes. The config file sets the cost of renaming and adding lore, and a negative value disables that mechanic.
