Enchanting Colors

by backslackes

Enchanting Colors gives enchanted books on Forge a color that reflects the enchantments they carry, so a book can be recognized from across an inventory.

ForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.20.6

What it does

Books are colored by the enchantments they contain. Combined books mix the colors of their enchantments, and a book with several enchantments shows a larger blend. A book holding a maximum-level enchantment receives a diamond seal. Either a ribbon cover or a seal marks the book, and the colors include enchantments added by other mods.

The colors are configurable, so a server owner or player can change which color each enchantment uses, including modded ones. Book colors are cached to limit the performance cost. Textures and overlays can be customized with resource packs, and a player can see what enchantments a book holds at a glance.

The mod runs on the client only, so the server does not need to install it, and players join a server without it. It is published for Forge across six release versions, under the MIT License, and the source code is public.
