Ecospherical Depths

by Apothicon

Ecospherical Depths replaces the overworld of a Forge world with one continuous cavern filled with underground biomes.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2

What it does

Ecospherical Depths rebuilds overworld terrain generation so that the surface world becomes a single never-ending cavern, with biomes arranged in three dimensions. Some large caverns have one biome on the floor and a different biome on the ceiling, which gives the terrain more variation than a standard overworld.

The mod provides nine cavity biomes, covering warm, cold, wet, dry, deep and submerged underground settings. Compatibility with other mods depends on how they add structures, features or mobs to the overworld. The author lists Alex's Mobs, Galosphere, Darker Depths, Quark and Create, and Molten Geodes, as mods tested and confirmed to work alongside it.

Ecospherical Depths is published for Forge only, with a single build for 1.18.2 released 2023-05-30 under the MIT License, and the source code is public. Players who run it on a server also need a Minecraft server to host the world. The mod is available in the open source form under that license.

Key features

  1. Never-ending cavern overworld

The overworld is replaced by one continuous cavern rather than open surface terrain.

  2. Three-dimensional biomes

Biomes are placed in layers, so a cavern can have one biome on its floor and another on its ceiling.

  3. Nine cavity biomes

Geodeial, Molten, Lush, Frozen, Deep, Tropical, Submerged, Glacial and Dripping Cavities are the implemented biomes.

  4. Terrain generation mod support

The mod can be run alongside mods such as Terraforged and Terrablender that alter overworld terrain.

Questions

Which loader does Ecospherical Depths support?

Only Forge. The only published file targets Minecraft 1.18.2, so the mod is not available for other loaders or versions.

Does Ecospherical Depths need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Players and the server both need the mod, since the environment covers client and server.

Can Ecospherical Depths be used with other terrain mods?

The author says compatibility varies with how other mods add structures, features or mobs to the overworld. Terraforged and Terrablender are named as terrain mods that can be used alongside it.

What the author says

Ecospherical Depths is a mod which completely overhauls the overworld to provide a brand new take on the cave world type that was removed in a recent version of Minecraft. Furthermore, the biome generation is three dimensional meaning that some large caverns may have one biome on the floor and another on the ceiling…
