EarlyGame

by JayCeeCreates

With EarlyGame installed, players can no longer break wood out of trees by punching them, so the first tools have to be made from other materials.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.16.2 – 1.19

What it does

EarlyGame changes the opening stage of a survival world. Punching a tree no longer yields wood, and stone and wood can only be collected with a suitable tool. Logs are chopped into planks, and planks are turned into sticks. Rocks and sticks lie naturally on the ground across the world, so a player can gather starting materials before crafting anything.

The mod adds cobblestone variants, makeshift flint tools, and copper items, tools and armor, with knives and saws offered as alternatives to the standard tools. Its stated aim is to make early progression feel more realistic. Cloth Config API and Fabric API are required dependencies, and Mod Menu is optional. EarlyGame is published for Fabric only, with builds covering 1.16.2 – 1.19 across eight release versions. It runs on the client and on the server, and it is released under the MIT License, so the code is open source.

Key features

  1. No wood from punching trees

Punching a tree does not drop wood, so the player has to find another way to start crafting.

  2. Tool requirements for stone and wood

Stone and wood blocks need a proper tool to be collected, which slows the start of a world.

  3. Naturally generated rocks and sticks

Rocks and sticks spawn on the ground around the world as starting materials.

  4. Makeshift flint tools

Flint can be shaped into simple tools that serve early in the progression.

  5. Copper items, tools and armor

Copper gear forms a step between the first materials and iron-level equipment.
