DragonFly Model Library

by UselessBullets

DragonFly Model Library lets BTA Babric mods load block, item, entity and animation models in the modern Java and Bedrock formats that modeling programs export.

What it does

DragonFly is a model library for Better Adventure, a heavily altered build of Minecraft b1.7.3 running on Babric. Mods made for BTA can use the modern model formats that later Minecraft versions use, covering block and item models, block states, and entity geometries and animations. Texture packs can also change the models that DragonFly loads, and the mod registers textures through HalpLibe and its entrypoints.

Modeling is done in programs such as BlockBench, which can produce complex models. Once a model is exported, it is placed in the assets animation folder of the mod, so the process is much less daunting to implement than writing model data by hand. DragonFly Example Mod shows how a project can use the library.

Installation applies to the client only, because the mod is client-side only. The library is published for the BTA Babric loader on b1.7.3, with snapshot builds available alongside releases. Its source code is available, and the code is under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, which places the work in the public domain.

Key features

  1. Modern block and item models

Block and item models use the Java model format, so models exported from modeling tools can be loaded directly.

  2. Block states

Block states use the modern Java format, letting a block switch between variants with its own model set.

  3. Entity geometry and animation

Entity geometries and animations use the Bedrock formats, so mobs and other entities can carry complex, animated models.

  4. Texture pack model changes

Texture packs can replace the models that DragonFly loads, so players can change the appearance of modded blocks and entities.

No per-version build data
Modrinth lists game versions for this project (b1.7.3), but the source data has no build per game version and loader, so the compatibility grid is not shown.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Modders building BTA Babric content who want models made in BlockBench instead of hand-written model data, and texture pack authors who want to change how modded blocks and entities look.
