Datapack Installer

by MacaylaMarvelous81

Datapack Installer lets players select datapacks during world creation or from the pause menu, without copying them into a world folder by hand.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.16 – 1.21.3

What it does

On a new world, the Create New World screen gains a datapack selector, so packs placed in the game's data folder can be chosen before the world generates. The same selector is reachable on an existing world through the pause menu's Manage data packs option, which covers worlds that were already created without the mod.

Packs chosen this way are copied into the world's datapack folder when the world starts, and the copies stay in place afterward. Switching worlds or deleting and regenerating a world normally means carrying the packs over again, and the mod removes that step. The mod's own folder is left intact, so the originals remain available for later worlds.

The mod runs on the client only, so players install it on single-player or multiplayer clients and servers do not need it. It is published for Fabric and requires Fabric API. Files cover 1.16 – 1.21.3, with 2.0.0 for 1.21.3 as the latest, released under the MIT License. The source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Datapack selector on world creation

Packs in the game's data folder appear in a selector while a new world is being created, so they can be enabled at once.

  2. Pause menu access

Manage data packs opens the same selector on a world that is already open, so packs can be added later.

  3. Automatic copying into the world

Chosen packs are copied into the world's data pack folder when the world loads, and the copies persist between sessions.

  4. Original folder kept intact

The mod's data pack folder keeps the source packs, so the same selections can be reused for other worlds.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players who use datapacks in single-player worlds and want a simpler way to choose them when creating or updating a world. Players who run servers should note that the mod is client-side only.

How it compares

Full comparison

Datapack Easy is a Fabric mod that runs on the server alone, so players join without installing it, and it is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, with files for 1.14.4 – 1.20.2. NBT Copy is open source under the same license and works on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, where either side can run it and neither needs it. Datapack Installer, by contrast, runs only on the client.

What the author says

On the server, all that happens is that the data packs are copied from the mod's data pack folder to the world data pack folder whenever the server starts. If you are switching worlds or deleting them to regenerate often, all you will need to do is switch or delete the world, and the data packs will carry on if you…
