Default Key Setup

by Giant-Salted-Fish

Default Key Setup lets a modpack author or player change the default key bindings that a Forge client starts with, without touching each binding by hand.

ForgeClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.12.2 – 1.20.4

What it does

The mod changes the default keys that the game assigns when a client first starts. Players can set their own defaults, and modpacks that ship with it can provide a more reasonable key layout from the start. Only the client needs it; a server does not have to run it.

Enhanced combination keys are supported through the optional Key Binding Patch dependency. A forced key reset is turned on in the config, and it pairs well with a default settings mod such as Default Options, so that bindings reset to the new defaults on the next game launch. Files are for Forge and cover 1.12.2 – 1.20.4.

Key features

  1. Custom default keys

Default key bindings can be changed so the game starts with the layout a player or modpack prefers.

  2. Forced key reset

A config option forces bindings back to the defaults on the next launch, when it is switched on.

  3. Combination key support

Enhanced combination keys work when the optional Key Binding Patch is installed alongside the mod.
