Database Utils

by KGriffon

Database Utils is a Fabric library that gives mod developers a configuration-managed way to connect their mods to SQL databases.

FabricClient or server, optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 26.2

What it does

The library targets mod developers who want to use a database without rebuilding the setup each time. Its main job is to read database settings from a configuration file, which is created automatically in the config folder the first time the mod loads, and to hand those settings to a developer's own query class. An example file named after the mod ID shows the expected layout.

A developer defines a custom class that extends DatabaseQueries and holds the SQL-related methods. The base class exposes helpers such as getType, so a custom implementation can stay compatible with the configured database. Because the configuration is separate from the code, the same implementation can work with multiple databases, and a database instance has to be created before queries run.

Database Utils is open source under the MIT License and runs on the client, the server or both, so it can be installed on either side. Files are published for Fabric only, 1.20 – 26.2, with 1.0.0+26.1 for 26.2 as the latest file.

Key features

  1. Configuration-managed databases

Database connection settings are read from a properties file that is generated automatically in the config folder.

  2. Custom query classes

A developer's class extends DatabaseQueries and collects the SQL methods the mod needs in one place.

  3. Shared configuration object

A Config object provides the database settings, and a snippet from the example retrieves them and initializes a DatabaseQueries implementation.

  4. Multiple database support

The same query implementation can be pointed at more than one database through configuration.

Ledger Databases is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for Fabric across 1.20.4 – 26.2. MariaDBServerFabricMC is also server-side only and open source under the MIT License, but its files cover 1.19.3 – 1.20.4. Chest Sort is a client-side only, closed-source mod under All rights reserved for 1.21 – 26.2, so it does not overlap with a database library.

Questions

Does Database Utils need Fabric API?

No required dependency is listed for Fabric. Fabric is the only loader with published files.

Does a server need Database Utils installed?

Either side can run it, and neither needs it. A mod that depends on it must install it on the side where its code runs.

Which mod requires Database Utils?

Virtual Storage requires it, so anyone installing Virtual Storage needs Database Utils as well.

Which Minecraft versions have files?

Files are published 1.20 – 26.2, including 1.20.5, 1.21.11 and 26.1.2, with 26.2 as the newest listed version.

In the catalog

Database Utils is one of 4,058 Storage mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,474 Storage mods for Fabric. 13,894 mods support Minecraft 26.2.

What the author says

This mod includes some utilities for working with databases. The most popular connectors are included directly in the mod JAR, which avoids having to import them into each mod and helps reduce the overall size of your projects. To import this library, you must add the following to your build.gradle file.
