Damage Correction
by StarChen
Damage Correction finishes off a creature that a single hit almost killed, by applying a small extra amount of damage when the remaining health is close to the damage dealt.
What it does
Each attack is evaluated after armor, enchantments and other effects have reduced the final damage. If the target's remaining health is only slightly above that damage, the mod adds the missing difference so the hit ends the fight cleanly. The aim is to remove near-lethal hits that would leave a creature with a sliver of health, without changing the rest of combat.
The threshold is set by a factor called k, which controls how much remaining health counts as close enough relative to the damage dealt. With the default value of 0.5, a monster with 20 health receiving an attack that leaves it just short of dying is finished with an extra 2 damage applied instantly. Attacks that are not near-lethal are handled normally. Server owners adjust the factor and its neighboring settings in a file called damage-correction-common.toml, which sits in the config folder.
The mod is licensed under the MIT License and is open source, with its source code and issue tracker publicly available. It is published for Forge and NeoForge on 1.19.2 – 26.2, with the latest Forge file for 1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge file for 26.2. Because it changes damage, it runs on the client and the server, so both need it.
Key features
Near-lethal correction
When a hit leaves a target almost dead, the missing difference is applied so the creature dies at once.
Configurable threshold
The factor k sets how close remaining health must be to the damage dealt before a correction is triggered.
Normal handling otherwise
Attacks that are not near-lethal are left untouched, so ordinary combat keeps its usual damage values.
Config file
Settings live in damage-correction-common.toml inside the config folder, where a server owner can change them.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Cleaner kills in combat
Players fighting monsters that drop to a few points of health are not forced into an extra swing to finish them.
Tuning on servers
Server owners can change the threshold in the config file to decide how strongly the correction applies.
Who it’s for: Players who want fewer leftover sliver-health enemies in combat, and server owners who want the threshold for near-lethal hits set on their own server.
