Countered's Weak Spots

by Countered

Countered's Weak Spots changes how critical hits work in Fabric 1.21.1 by placing a Weak Spot on enemies, and hitting that spot is what lands a crit.

FabricClient and serverMIT License1.21.1

What it does

Weak Spots decide where critical hits occur on a mob. Once an entity has been struck one time, its Weak Spot becomes visible, and sneaking reveals Weak Spots in the surrounding area. Jump criticals are also expanded, and a player who aims precisely can land hits on the Weak Spot instead of relying on the standard crit timing.

The mod is a Fabric mob and adventure addition for single-player and multiplayer play. Entities that do not yet have Weak Spots still take critical hits the vanilla way, so the existing combat keeps working on them. The project describes itself as an early version and asks for feedback through its issue tracker.

The mod runs on the client and the server, so both need it. It targets Minecraft 1.21.1 only and has one build, 0.1.0, published on 2025-03-27 on the beta channel. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Weak Spot placement

Critical hits land on a designated Weak Spot on each affected enemy, which turns hit placement into part of the fight.

  2. Reveal after first hit

The Weak Spot of a mob becomes visible once it has been struck, so the player learns where to aim on later swings.

  3. Sneak to reveal

Sneaking exposes the Weak Spots in the nearby area, giving players a way to scout a group before engaging.

  4. Expanded jump criticals

Jump attacks produce additional critical hits, widening the situations in which a jump gives a bonus.

  5. Precise aiming

Players who aim carefully can strike a Weak Spot directly, rewarding accuracy over timing alone.

Use cases

Fights against single mobs

Players facing one enemy can strike its Weak Spot after the first hit reveals it.

Group encounters

Sneaking to show Weak Spots helps a player read a crowd before choosing targets.

Who it’s for: The mod suits players who want combat to depend on aim and positioning, and servers that want to test an early combat change. Because it is still an early version, its behavior may change between builds.

Questions

Does Countered's Weak Spots need Fabric API?

No required dependency is listed for Fabric.

Does the server need the mod installed?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod installed.

Do all mobs have Weak Spots yet?

No. Entities without Weak Spots still take critical hits the vanilla way, and the project lists this as work not yet implemented.
