CobbleBoss

by RainApricot

CobbleBoss lets server owners define custom Boss battles for the Cobblemon world, each with its own Pokemon, display name, glow color and spawn rules.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.21.1

What it does

Each Boss is described by a data pack file under the cobbleboss namespace, with a unique internal ID, a player-facing name and a species assignment. A Boss can glow in a chosen outline color after it spawns, and its natural spawn conditions can be limited by time of day, biome, structure and spawn weight. Rewards and punishments are set per Boss, including items, commands and Pokemon level reduction after a loss.

The mod also controls battle setup: the battle mode and layout, the number of actions per turn, held items, stat overrides and shininess. A shield system, enabled in a global switch, gives a Boss extra protection through initial shield layers, per-turn recovery and a weakened period after the shield breaks. Phases can change moves based on HP percentage. Configuration covers both the normal Boss folder and paid multiplayer Boss team files, and Fabric and NeoForge share the same field names and TOML structure.

Cobblemon is required, because the Bosses are built around its species and battles. CobbleBoss runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it, and it is published for Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1.

Key features

  1. Custom Boss definitions

Each Boss is a separate file with its own ID, name, species and glow color, so new Bosses can be added without changing code.

  2. Natural spawn rules

Spawn conditions can restrict a Boss to specific times, biomes, structures and spawn selection weights.

  3. Rewards and punishments

Direct reward entries, reward pools and punishment entries can run commands, grant items or reduce the Pokemon level after a defeat.

  4. Battle shield system

Initial shield layers, per-turn recovery and a weakened period after a break give Bosses extra protection during battle.

  5. Phase-based moves

Boss moves change at configured HP percentages, so a fight can shift as its health drops.

Use cases

Server events

Server owners can place unique Bosses in the world as a recurring challenge for players.

Multiplayer teams

Paid multiplayer Boss team files let a server define larger group encounters.

Who it’s for: Server owners and pack makers who want to design their own Boss battles for Cobblemon without writing Java code.

How it compares

Full comparison

Cobbled Level Control is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for 1.21.1, so players need nothing installed. Cobblemon Raid Dens is client and server, open source under the MIT License and also for 1.21.1, and it adds raid battles rather than configurable Bosses.

Does CobbleBoss have to be installed on both sides?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod installed.
