Clavis
by SSKirillSS
Clavis turns opening a locked chest into a small skill-based mini-game, where the loot inside decides how hard the lock is to pick.
What it does
Locked chests in Clavis open through a lockpicking mini-game rather than a single click. How hard a lock is to pick scales with the value of the loot it guards, so richer chests bring a tougher lockpicking challenge. Three main difficulty levels mark the interface with colored outlines and a smiley, and each lock floats above its chest so a player can see the challenge before starting. Players decide whether a chest is worth the time before they try it.
Clavis is meant to keep high-tier loot from arriving too early in a run, which slows the pace of dungeon rewards in the early game. Better performance in the mini-game yields a larger reward, and the mod states that a perfect result can nearly double the loot. The mod is available on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1, and it needs both ShatterLib and OctoLib. Lootr is an optional dependency. The server and every player need the mod installed. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Skill-based lockpicking
Each locked chest opens through a mini-game whose success determines how much loot the player receives.
Difficulty tied to loot value
Chests holding more valuable loot present harder locks, with three difficulty levels shown by color and icon.
Rewards that scale with performance
A stronger result in the mini-game yields a larger reward, and a perfect result can nearly double the loot.
Pacing of dungeon loot
High-tier items are kept back from early progression, so the loot economy scales with the player's skill and progress.

The better you perform, the richer your reward - up to nearly double the loot for a perfect result. Lock's difficulty depends on how valuable the loot inside is. The richer the…
