Chested Companions lets players attach a chest to tamed cats and dogs, giving each pet a 9-slot inventory that only its owner can open.

What it does

A chest is equipped on a tamed cat or dog and holds nine slots by default, a size the config file can change. Access is limited to the pet's owner, and that rule is also configurable. Clicking the pet with Shears removes the chest again.

Chested Companions is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 9 release versions, 1.20.1 – 1.21.8. Both the client and the server need the mod, so it has to be installed on each side.

Key features

  1. Chests on tamed pets

    Tamed cats and dogs can carry a chest, so pets can hold items while travelling with the player.

  2. Configurable slots and access

    The number of slots and the owner-only access rule can both be changed in the mod's settings.

  3. Removal with Shears

    Clicking the pet with Shears takes the chest off, returning it to the player's inventory.
