ChatPositionDisplay

by KSmc's Team

ChatPositionDisplay shows the player's current coordinates and the matching Nether coordinates above the game screen, with a chat box for copying them.

ForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1

What it does

Coordinates are drawn above the game screen for the player's current position, alongside the block coordinates and the corresponding Nether coordinates. Opening the chat box shows the same information there, so a coordinate can be read and sent without leaving the game view. The display can be switched between modes, and the mod is built for Forge on 1.20.1 only, with a single file published as 1.0.

Pressing Alt+C copies the current coordinates and Alt+X copies the current block coordinates, both to the clipboard. The mod is client-side only, so the server does not need it, and it is open source under the MIT License. The source code, an issue tracker and a wiki are linked from the project.

Key features

  1. Player and block coordinates

The current player position and the block position are shown together, so both values can be read at once.

  2. Nether coordinate conversion

The Nether coordinates matching the current position are calculated and displayed next to the overworld values.

  3. Coordinate copying

Alt+C and Alt+X copy the current coordinates or block coordinates, which suits sharing a location in chat.

  4. Sleep display option

Whether coordinates appear during sleep is governed by the bedChat setting, which lives in cpd-config.json inside the config folder of the game directory.

Use cases

Navigating the Nether

Players travelling between dimensions can read the matching Nether coordinates while standing in a portal area.

Who it’s for: Players on Forge 1.20.1 who want coordinates on screen, and server owners who want to know what players see. The mod is not needed on the server.

Questions

Does ChatPositionDisplay need to be installed on the server?

No. The mod is client-side only, so only the player's client needs it, and the server can run without it.

Which Minecraft version and loader does ChatPositionDisplay support?

The mod is published for Forge on 1.20.1 only, in the 1.0 file released on 2025-01-13.

Can coordinates be shown while sleeping?

Yes. To decide if the position readout stays visible while a player sleeps, change the bedChat value in cpd-config.json, a file kept in the config folder under the game directory.
