Chains and ropes

by tempis335

Chains and ropes lets players hang decorative chains and ropes between two points, with a catenary sag, optional attachments and simple swing physics.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.4 – 1.21.8

What it does

A first right-click on a block marks the start of a line, and a second right-click on another point pulls a chain or rope across the gap. The line follows a catenary curve, and four sag presets (straight, light, medium and heavy) control how much it droops. Either end can take an optional attachment, and the cost is the item or block the player picks, at two of the selected item per span.

Segments can be decorated after the line is placed: right-clicking a segment with an item hangs that item from it, one per segment. Sneaking and right-clicking a segment with an empty hand removes the decoration, while breaking the whole chain removes it entirely. Hanging luminous objects from a chain makes them emit light. A simple swing physics reacts when a player touches or hits the line, and it can be toggled off. Chains and ropes is a Forge mod released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Its files target 1.19.4 – 1.21.8 across eight release versions, and the latest file, 0.1.0 for 1.21.8, was published on 2026-04-08.

Key features

  1. Catenary chains and ropes

A line is drawn between two chosen points and follows a catenary curve with a choice of sag.

  2. Sag presets

Straight, light, medium and heavy presets set how far the line droops between its ends.

  3. Segment decorations

Items can be hung from individual segments, and the decoration is removed with a sneak and empty-hand click.

  4. Swing physics

The line sways when touched or hit, and the behavior can be toggled off in the settings.
