Caves & Creatures

by gavmods

Caves & Creatures adds three cave biomes stocked with about 185 new mobs, many of them tamable, for players who explore underground.

What it does

Each of the three biomes brings its own set of creatures and its own look. Ancient Lush Caves is a sandy, green, tropical cave with clear blue water, lakes, mud ponds and tar pits, where hybrid creatures appear. Tar pits are dangerous and can drown a player who falls in.

Most of the new mobs can be tamed, and tamed ones can be set to sit, wander or stay with a stick. Tamed creatures are fed with heart fruit or glow berries, while Liopleurodon needs meat and Ophthalmosaurus has its own taming requirement. Spider Snakes carry a paralytic venom, and the author suggests milk buckets as a counter.

The mod requires Feature Recycler, so it cannot run without that dependency installed next to it. The server and every player need the mod installed. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, for 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.8. The latest files are 1.6.4 for 1.20.1 on Forge and 1.6.4 for 1.21.8 on NeoForge, both dated 2026-05-28. The code is not open source and is licensed as All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Three cave biomes

Ancient Lush Caves and two further cave biomes add their own terrain, colors and creature sets to underground exploration.

  2. Around 185 mobs

The total includes variants, with 23 new mobs counted among the species, and each biome adds its own personality.

  3. Tamable creatures

Almost all of the added mobs can be tamed and given sit, wander or stay orders with a stick.

  4. Ongoing additions

The author adds content frequently and plans future biomes and pets, with the focus on caves, animals and other focal points.
