Calcite

by nutyworks

Calcite replaces the vanilla command block screen on Fabric with a custom interface that is simpler to read and edit, and it changes nothing on the server side.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.4

What it does

The mod swaps the standard command block GUI for its own layout. Hovering over an argument while holding the Ctrl key brings up a tooltip describing it, and the screen can open the command blocks connected to the one being edited. Commands that have been changed from their default state are outlined in yellow, so edits stand out during a build session. Pressing Escape no longer closes the screen in the same way as the vanilla interface.

Calcite keeps working when sendCommandFeedback is set to true, and it accepts item text component NBT compounds in the command fields. Because it is a client-side only mod, a player installs it alone; a server does not need it to run the same commands.

Files are published for Fabric 1.20.4, with 0.2.3 as the latest build, released on 2024-03-19 on the beta channel. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with its source code and issue tracker public.

Key features

  1. Custom command block screen

The vanilla command block GUI is replaced by a custom interface with a reworked layout for editing commands.

  2. Argument tooltips

Holding Ctrl while hovering over a command argument shows a tooltip, so its meaning can be checked without leaving the screen.

  3. Connected command blocks

The screen can open the command blocks linked to the current one, which helps when a build uses several chained blocks.

  4. Highlighted changes

Commands that differ from their default values are outlined in yellow, making modified entries stand out at a glance.

Use cases

Editing chained command blocks

Builders who link several command blocks can move between them from one screen and see which commands they have changed.

Writing NBT-heavy commands

Commands that use item text component NBT compounds can be entered in the custom screen, which reads them directly.

Who it’s for: Map makers and players who write commands in command blocks on Fabric 1.20.4 and want a clearer editing screen.
