BSE adds a Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy infection that spreads through cow-like mobs in a world, with phases that change how the mobs behave and what they become.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Infected mobs progress through numbered phases over time, and each phase changes their strength and resilience. Mobs that kill other entities pick up bonuses to health and defense scaled to the current phase number. Phase 7 is labeled the nominal final phase, though progression continues beyond it with new special effects. A bell shows the current infection phase, a redstone pulse can convert nearby ores, and drinking a specific item makes a player a member of the infection, so the infected mobs leave that player alone.

Most BSE mobs stay passive unless attacked, with four exceptions that act as the strongest entities of the infection. Once it begins, the infection also spreads through the air, and a mob that dies may spawn a cow at Phase 5 or later. Lower-tier mobs scale with the current phase. Natural evolution stops at a set point, and progression depends on infected mobs killing other entities. The mod requires Geckolib and Pehkui and is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Infection phases

Infected mobs move through numbered phases, and the current phase controls their attributes and behavior.

  2. Infection spread

Mobs infected by BSE can convert others, and airborne transmission lets the infection reach more of the world.

  3. Phase-based mob variants

Dying BSE variants may spawn matching BSE mobs, and new monsters appear as the infection advances, including Cownd Man, Cow Golem and Big Cow.

  4. Parasite pillars and immunity

Low-level Cowtrees parasite pillars start appearing as the infection grows, and mobs gain immunity to attacks at Phase 1 with a chance to stop being targeted.

What the author says

Cows have developed strange mutations resembling mad cow disease, yet not exactly the same. They are silently and imperceptibly spreading across the entire world... You’re free to drop this into any modpack—no need to ask or get permission—and recording videos is more than welcome.
