Brx's Customizable Nextbot

by Broxliz

Brx's Customizable Nextbot adds chasing entities, called nextbots, that pursue the player across the world and can be reshaped through a resource pack.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 only1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

A nextbot chases the nearest player from up to 512 blocks away, climbs and jumps over obstacles, and destroys blocks in its path, except containers. Blocks it breaks are restored automatically afterward. Nextbots can also spawn naturally in caves where many ores are mined, so mining heavily can bring one into the world.

Nine nextbots are included. Each one takes its hit points, speed, attack damage and sounds from a base nextbot, and the base can be changed. Players can summon a nextbot with a command, and a custom texture can be added through a resource pack by giving the entity its own resource id and name. Sound behavior and spawn settings are changed in the brx nextbot-common.toml file in the config folder of the game directory, and the game must be restarted after editing it.

The mod runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. It is not open source.

Key features

  1. Pursuing nextbots

Nextbots track the player from long distances, jump over terrain and break through walls to keep the chase going.

  2. Nine base entities

Nine nextbots are available out of the box, each built from a base that sets health, speed, attack damage and sounds.

  3. Custom textures and names

A resource pack can replace a nextbot's image and give it a custom name, using the entity's resource id.

  4. Command summoning

A command places a nextbot of a chosen type into the world, so an admin can add one during play.

  5. Cave spawning from mining

Nextbots can spawn naturally after heavy ore mining in caves, and the spawn rules are set in the config file.

Questions

Does Nextbot need a resource pack to change its look?

No. The nine included nextbots work without one. A resource pack is needed only to replace a texture or give a nextbot a custom name.

Do both the server and the players need the mod?

Yes. The environment is client and server, so the server and every player must run the mod on Forge or NeoForge for 1.20.1 or 1.21.1.

Where are nextbot settings changed?

In the brx nextbot-common.toml file in the config folder of the game directory. The game must be restarted after the file is edited.

What the author says

This mod adds a chasing entity with customizable texture into Minecraft. The entity destroys all blocks in its way (except containers) and performs high jumps so as to literally chase the player wherever they are (as long as they are within 512 blocks' distance). Destroyed blocks will be automatically restored.
