Breath VFX
by Rahil574
Breath VFX draws visible breath vapor around the character, a Forge client effect that appears continuously and grows denser in rain and snow.
What it does
The character exhales visible vapor particles without interruption, and the effect is set up to look natural rather than scripted. Breath particles spawn on their own as the player moves through the world, and the amount shown rises during rainy weather and snowfall, so cold and wet conditions read clearly on screen. The effect works in every biome and dimension.
A simple config file controls particle density, spawn rate and visual intensity, so each player can adjust how strong the effect looks. Breath VFX is a client-side mod: only the player's game needs it, the server runs without installing it, and the code is released under All rights reserved. It is published for Forge 1.20.1 as version 1.0.0.
Key features
Continuous breath vapor
The character exhales visible breath vapor particles at all times, not only in cold biomes.
Weather-based strength
Particles become more visible during rain and are enhanced during snowfall, tying the effect to the weather.
Configurable particles
Density, spawn rate and visual intensity can be changed in a simple config file to suit each player.
Lightweight particle system
The vapor uses a lightweight particle setup, and the mod is described as optimized for performance.

Use cases
Cold and wet survival play
Players in snowy or rainy biomes can see their breath change with the weather, adding detail to winter and storm scenes.
Atmospheric modpacks
Modpack builders who value environmental detail can add the effect to a survival pack for a more immersive character.
Who it’s for: Players who want more environmental detail on their character, and modpack authors building survival packs around atmosphere. Because it is client-side, it can be added to a pack without changing the server.
How it compares
Breath VFX is client-side only and Forge-only for 1.20.1, with no other loader. WeatherRefind is also client-side only, but it covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20 – 26.3 under a custom license. Snowfall runs on client and server, on Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1, and is also All rights reserved; it is not open source.
