Boss Bar Begone
by Bahanos
Boss Bar Begone is a client-side Fabric mod that hides boss bars whose display name matches a simple JSON configuration.
What it does
Boss bars appear on screen while a boss fight is active, and in some modpacks several mobs with bars can clutter the view. Boss Bar Begone lets a player pick which bars are shown and which are removed, based on each bar's display name. The selection is written in a simple JSON config file.
Matching is case-insensitive and works on substrings, so a short entry can hide every bar whose name contains it. Because the mod changes only what the client draws, it adds no measurable load to the server or the game world. Installation needs Fabric Loader and the Fabric API, and the mod is published only for 1.20.1, with version 1.0.1 as the latest file. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Only the client needs the mod, so players can join a server that does not run it. Other alternatives in the catalog with different loaders or versions are listed in the comparison below.
Key features
Hide boss bars by name
Each boss bar is removed from the screen when its display name matches an entry in the config file.
Case-insensitive substring matching
An entry matches any boss bar whose name contains that text, regardless of capital letters.
Simple JSON config
The list of hidden names is stored in a JSON file that can be edited by hand, with no in-game menu required.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Modpacks with many bosses
In packs where several mobs carry boss bars at once, a player can remove the bars that clutter the screen and keep the ones they want.
Focused boss fights
A player who wants only one boss bar visible can hide the rest by name without changing the fight itself.
Who it’s for: Players of Fabric modpacks for 1.20.1 who want fewer boss bars on screen. It suits anyone who wants control over which bars are displayed and is comfortable editing a small JSON file.
How it compares
Boss Bar Begone works only on the client, so it is client-side only on Fabric for 1.20.1. Black Bar Concealer is also client-side only on Fabric, released under the MIT License, and built for 1.21 – 26.3 instead. Auto Hide frame runs on Fabric and Quilt for 1.20.1 – 1.21.3 and is all rights reserved, not open source, the same licensing as Boss Bar Begone.
