BlockBlock
by Blunthorn
With BlockBlock installed, server staff can stop players from breaking, placing, interacting with or crafting specific blocks, items and entities.
What it does
BlockBlock lets a modpack creator or server owner restrict actions a player can take in the world. Restrictions can cover breaking blocks, placing blocks, interacting with blocks and entities, entity drops, crafting recipes and the use of certain items. Pack makers can gate content behind progress, and server staff can use it to prevent actions they do not want players to perform.
The mod runs on the client and on the server, so both sides need it. It is a Fabric mod for 1.20.1, and its dependencies are BlunthornAPI and Fabric API. Jade is optional and can be added alongside it. BlockBlock is released under the MIT License and is open source, with source code, an issue tracker and a wiki available. It also has a dependent addon, StorageBlock, that requires it.
A vanilla client can join a server that runs BlockBlock, but the mod is recommended on the client as well, because some client-side features such as tooltips would otherwise be missing and can cause more visual bugs. A restriction can make a block or item pop out of existence on the client when the mod is not installed there, so installing it on both sides avoids that confusion.
Key features
Block breaking rules
Restrict which blocks players are allowed to break, depending on the rules a pack or server defines.
Block placement rules
Control where and which blocks can be placed, so locked content cannot be built ahead of progression.
Interaction limits
Block usage and entity interaction can be limited, for example to stop players from opening a block or touching an entity.
Crafting and drop control
Crafting recipes and entity drops can be restricted, so locked items do not appear before a player reaches them.

Use cases
Gated progression in modpacks
Pack creators can lock items and blocks at the start of a playthrough and make them available as the player advances.
Server rule enforcement
Server staff can prevent actions that break the rules of a community server without writing custom plugins.
Who itβs for: Modpack creators who want to gate progression and server owners who need to limit specific player actions. Players on a server that runs the mod should install it on their client as well.
