Biospherical Expansion

by Apothicon

Biospherical Expansion overhauls most of the Overworld through new terrain, 39 biomes, custom trees, caves and ore generation, and needs Ecospherical Expansion to run.

What it does

The mod changes overworld generation in several places at once. Custom terrain generation and custom biome placement reshape the land, and 39 new biomes sit alongside recreations of vanilla biomes. Giant custom trees and 38 vanilla-like decorative blocks add to the surface, so the look of newly generated chunks departs from vanilla in many small ways.

Underground the mod adds massive caves with rough ceiling carvings, underground rivers and lava pools. Custom ore generation places giant ore spikes instead of the usual veins. Ecospherical Expansion is required and must be installed alongside Biospherical Expansion, and the mod is also used in modpacks, where it can serve as the world generation base.

The mod is released for Forge and is listed for 1.20.1 and 1.20.2, with 2.1.1 for 1.20.2 as the latest file. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the source is public.

Key features

  1. New biomes

Thirty-nine new biomes are added, and several recreate vanilla biomes with altered layouts.

  2. Custom terrain

Terrain generation and biome placement are replaced with custom logic that reshapes large areas of the overworld.

  3. Giant trees

New tall trees and 38 decorative blocks in a vanilla-like style spread across the surface.

  4. Large caves

Underground caves are massive, with rough ceiling carvings, underground rivers and lava.

  5. Giant ore spikes

Ore generation uses large spike-shaped deposits in place of standard ore veins.

How it compares

Full comparison

Echovoids is Forge, client and server, under the BSD 2-Clause License, and is listed only for 1.20.1, so it targets a single version where Biospherical Expansion covers 1.20.1 and 1.20.2. Connected Caves is also Forge and client and server under the MIT License, but it is limited to 1.20.1 and changes caves rather than the whole overworld. Upgrade Underground is Forge, client and server, not open source, and covers 1.20.1 only.
