Biome Rings

by yurius5641

Biome Rings lets a server owner place chosen biomes in concentric bands around the center of the overworld, using a JSON file for each ring.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1

What it does

Biome Rings controls how far from the world center each biome can generate. A JSON file lists the biomes to force into a given range of blocks from the center, with a minimum and a maximum distance for each entry. Each biome in the list also carries a pool weight, which sets how often it is chosen within its ring compared with the other entries.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, and the server alone needs it. It has been tested on vanilla 1.21.1 only, and the author notes that compatibility with other custom biome or terrain generation mods is probably limited. The author plans further bugfixes, optimization and config file improvements, and states that additional features and compatibility work are welcome in forks or copies of the repository.

Installation requires Fabric. Files are published for Fabric only, for 1.21.1, with 1.0.0 as the latest file released on 2026-06-24. The code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Distance-based biome rings

Biomes can be forced to appear within a chosen range of blocks from the overworld center.

  2. Minimum and maximum distances

Each entry in the list sets a minimum and a maximum distance, so bands of biomes can be placed in order from the center outward.

  3. Weighted biome pools

A pool weight on each biome controls how often it is picked within its ring, so one biome can dominate a band.

  4. Example config file

A sample config shows a ring of plains, then desert and badlands, then forest and dark forest, as a starting template.

What the author says

This mod aims to provide a json file to force the generation of a biome or a list of biomes in a specified range of the overworld center. Note that this mod was only tested in vanilla 1.21.1, and probably has little to no compatiblity with any other custom biomes/terrain generation mods.
