BioForge - Loomborn

by Jenki

With Loomborn, silkworms become a breeding and farming system where players raise worms, select their traits and collect the threads they produce.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1

What it does

Loomborn adds a silkworm farming system to Minecraft. Players place eggs and leaves into a silkworm hive, wait about 1200 ticks (roughly one minute), and unravel the resulting threads. The system is built around genetics: each silkworm carries its own attributes, and breeding combines them so that some worms favor string production while others change how much food they eat.

The mod is a Forge addition for 1.20.1 only, and it runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it installed. The project is released under All rights reserved, and its source code is publicly available on GitHub for reading, modification and continued work. The author notes that Loomborn is no longer actively developed, and the BioForge name appears in the author text as a related note.

Key features

  1. Silkworm hive

A hive accepts silkworm eggs and leaves, and the worms inside grow over a set period.

  2. Genetic breeding

Silkworms carry unique genetic attributes, and breeding passes them on, shaping string output and feeding habits.

  3. Thread unraveling

Finished cocoons are unraveled to produce thread, the material the farming system is built around.

  4. Timed growth cycle

The hive takes about 1200 ticks, roughly a minute, to complete one cycle from egg to output.

  5. Public source code

The source code is available on GitHub so players and developers can explore and modify the mod.

Use cases

Breeding for specific output

Learning from the code

Developers can read the GitHub source to see how the genetics and hive logic are implemented.

Who it’s for: Players interested in farming systems with breeding mechanics, and modders who want to study or continue the Loomborn codebase on Forge 1.20.1.
