Better Vanilla F3

by p1k0chu

With Better Vanilla F3, the debug overlay opened by the F3 key keeps the section order and layout of earlier Minecraft versions instead of the reshuffled 1.21.9 arrangement.

FabricClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.21.9 – 26.2

What it does

The mod targets the F3 debug overlay. In 1.21.9 new debug sections were added and several existing ones moved to places that seem random. Better Vanilla F3 hard-codes the section order of earlier versions, so the familiar layout returns. It also restores debug overlay rendering behind the GUI to match earlier behavior, puts the relative position of sections back where they used to be, and brings back the day counter and local difficulty readouts that 26.1 dropped.

The mod is client-side only, so a server does not need it and players can use it on single-player or multiplayer without a server change. It requires YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) for its settings screen, and Mod Menu is optional for opening that screen from the mod list. The code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source. Files are published for Fabric only, across seven release versions 1.21.9 – 26.2, with 2.0.3 for 26.1.2 as the latest file, dated 2026-10-08.

Key features

  1. Familiar section order

Overlay sections are placed in the order used by earlier versions, so debug information appears where players expect it.

  2. Overlay behind the GUI

The debug overlay is drawn behind open interface screens again, matching the earlier rendering behavior.

  3. Pie chart scaling

Pie chart scaling is adjusted and the chart background can be turned off.

  4. Day counter and local difficulty

The day counter and local difficulty readouts from before 26.1 are restored to the overlay.

What the author says

Opinionated mod to bring back the usual familiar f3 order of things. 1.21.9 adds new debug overlay stuff, but the sections end up in seemingly random places.
