BetterCreaking
by ItsFelix5
Players exploring the pale garden biome meet a harder version of the creaking, with a mob that grows faster and deals more damage after it is hit.
What it does
BetterCreaking changes the creaking mob and the pale garden biome it lives in. The biome is made more threatening: it has a moody, darkened brightness at night, creakings are the only mob that spawns there, and the pale oak leaves no longer block movement. Pale garden blocks are fireproofed, and ambient sounds were added to the biome.
The creaking itself gets an anger mechanic. After it is struck, it becomes faster and hits harder. Two new blocks, a looking detector and a resin sensor, let players react to creakings that are watching or nearby. The creaking heart crafting recipe is removed, so the heart cannot be made by hand.
The mod requires Fabric API. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files cover 1.21.6, 1.21.7 and 1.21.8, with 1.1 for 1.21.8 as the latest build for both loaders. The source code is public, under the MIT License, and issues are tracked in a public issue tracker.
Key features
Harder creakings
After a creaking is hit it becomes faster and deals more damage, so fights in the pale garden last less time.
Darker pale garden
The pale garden biome gets a moody brightness at night and a more dangerous feel, with creakings as its only spawning mob.
Looking detector
A new block detects when a player is looking at it, so creakings can be tracked without leaving a sensor visible.
Resin sensor
A resin sensor block gives a signal when a creaking is close, adding a tool for watching the garden.
Changed pale garden blocks
Pale oak leaves no longer block movement, the pale garden is fireproofed, and ambient sounds play in the biome.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who find the vanilla creaking too mild, and server owners and map makers who want a more dangerous pale garden. Players need the mod on the client to see the new block textures and sounds.
How it compares
Pale Garden Upgrade is a Fabric-only client and server mod under the MIT License, open source, and published for 1.21.4 – 1.21.5. Pale World is also open source under the MIT License and covers Fabric and Quilt for 1.21.4 – 26.2, with client and server as the environment. BetterCreaking covers only 1.21.6 – 1.21.8 on Fabric and Quilt, so it targets a later release range than Pale Garden Upgrade.
