Better Rails

by supertiefighter

Better Rails changes how minecarts and rails behave, adding a copper Accelerator Rail and rules for speed, derailing and wall impacts.

FabricClient and serverCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.01.20.4 – 1.20.6

What it does

The mod keeps rail functionality close to vanilla while making rails more useful. A new Accelerator Rail, crafted from copper, lets minecarts reach much higher speeds. Powered rails take longer to bring a minecart up to speed, and rails that oxidize lose maximum speed, so older track performs differently from fresh track.

Minecarts can derail at corners when they travel fast, so they need to be slowed before turning. A minecart that hits a wall too hard is destroyed and damages its passengers. A minecart taking a ramp fast enough keeps climbing rather than rolling back to a halt. Fabric API and oωo (owo-lib) are required dependencies, and Mod Menu is optional. Files are published for Fabric only, for 1.20.4 and 1.20.6, with 1.2.0 for 1.20.6 as the latest file.

Key features

  1. Accelerator Rail

A copper rail that lets a minecart reach much higher speeds than standard powered rails allow.

  2. Slower acceleration on powered rails

Powered rails need more time to bring a minecart up to speed, which changes how track layouts feel in play.

  3. Oxidation reduces speed

As rails oxidize, their maximum speed decreases, so weathered track limits how fast minecarts can travel.

  4. Crash damage on walls

A minecart that strikes a wall at high speed is destroyed and deals damage to its passengers.

What the author says

This mod aims to make rails more useful while keeping the functionality close to vanilla.
