Better Controls
by chylex
Better Controls changes how sprinting, sneaking, gliding and flying respond to the movement keys, with options for each behavior.
What it does
Better Controls keeps its changes to vanilla mechanics and avoids introducing new ones. Its options control the Sprint key through three modes: tap to start sprinting, tap to start and stop sprinting, or hold to sprint. Double tapping forward to sprint can be turned off, and sprinting can resume after the player hits an obstacle and stops moving. Smooth camera movement while sneaking can also be disabled.
Gliding and flight can be adjusted as well. A dedicated key starts a glide, and double tapping jump can be set to glide or to fly, or turned off. The flight inertia multiplier controls how quickly the player stops moving in the air after releasing the movement keys. Both speed boosts are configured separately, and the sprint boost applies while the Sprint key is held.
Better Controls is client-side only, so the server and players do not need it, and servers run without it. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files covering 1.15 – 1.21.11, and the code is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. Files are also published for snapshot builds of Minecraft.
Key features
Sprint key modes
The Sprint key can start sprinting on tap, toggle sprinting on and off with taps, or sprint only while held.
Double tap options
Double tapping forward to sprint and double tapping jump to glide or fly can each be switched off.
Resume sprinting after obstacles
Sprinting can restart on its own after the player hits a block and keeps touching it for a short time.

What the author says
Better Controls only focuses on complementing vanilla mechanics, rather than adding new mechanics (such as Better Sprinting's option to allow sprinting in all directions) that only work on client side and server owners must explicitly opt in to enable them. By not having such features in Better Controls, it…
