Better Campfires

by TrongThang

Better Campfires changes how campfires behave in Minecraft Java Edition, adding buffs, debuffs, fuel and burn-out timers for the campfire block.

FabricClient required, server optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1

What it does

Campfires can give buffs to players who stand near them, and they can apply debuffs or buffs to hostile mobs. Campfires start unlit, which is a default setting in the config file, and rain and snow extinguish them. Campfires can also burn out after a set time, and fuels make them burn longer. The buff identifiers have to be read before adding custom buffs, and changes to the config only take effect after the game is restarted.

The mod is published for Fabric only, covering 1.20.1, and the latest Fabric file is 2.4.9 for 1.20.1, dated 2025-03-11. Players need it installed, while the server may add it for extra effects. It is released under the MIT License and is open source. Players who use Lithium should add a line to lithium.properties so the campfires keep burning as intended.

Key features

  1. Buffs for players

Players standing near a campfire receive buffs, which adds a strategic element to survival play.

  2. Debuffs and buffs for mobs

Hostile mobs can be given debuffs or buffs, and campfires can burn hostile mobs nearby.

  3. Burn-out timer

Campfires burn out after a set time, and fuels extend how long a fire keeps going.

  4. Weather effects

Rain and snow extinguish campfires, so exposed fires need shelter.
