BearEdit

by Silabear

BearEdit is a world-editing datapack for Minecraft 1.20.2 and later that replaces finicky chat commands with a selection and building workflow.

What it does

BearEdit is a datapack that brings WorldEdit-style building to vanilla commands. Players select a mode with the F key, hold an item to read the current mode and status in the text above the hotbar, and use the item's controls to place or change blocks. Pick-block works from the offhand, and the mod works with modded blocks as well as vanilla ones. Each operation finishes in seconds without pulling the player out of the building flow.

The mod needs no mod loader on the server side, since it runs as a datapack. Players join without installing anything, and a client may also carry the accompanying resource pack, so the server needs it while players may add it. Builds are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, across 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6, 1.21 and 1.21.11. The latest file is 1.7M for 1.21.11, released 2025-12-13, and the license is Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0. The project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Selection modes

The F key switches between modes, and the active mode shows in the text above the hotbar while the item is held.

  2. Item-based controls

Main controls live on a single item, which can be found in the inventory, so the interface stays out of the chat window.

  3. Offhand pick-block

Picking a block works from the offhand, so a builder can keep both hands on the work.

  4. Modded block support

Edits apply to blocks added by other mods, not only to vanilla blocks.

  5. Multiplayer use

The datapack works in multiplayer, so a server can give its players the same editing tools.

How it compares

Full comparison

Infinicontrol is published for 1.21.4 – 1.21.10 under the same Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 license, so its version range does not reach 1.21.11 as BearEdit does. Its server needs it, while players may add it, which leaves the choice to each side. WorldEdit CUI (Unofficial Forge Port) is client-side only, with files for 1.20 – 1.21.1 under the EPL-1.0 license, and only needs to be installed by players who want the selection display. Client-Side WorldEdit is a Fabric client mod for 1.21.11 under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and it is open source, unlike BearEdit.

What the author says

If you hold the item, you should see text above your hotbar, showing the current status and selected mode. This item is super duper simple to use. In fact, it’s no more than 3 steps to understand: 1. Select the mode using F 2. Pick a block by putting it in your offhand, if applicable 3. Right click on a block to…
