AutoTool

by KSmc's Team

AutoTool switches to the appropriate tool in the hotbar as a player mines a block or attacks an entity, using the item that suits the target.

What it does

Once AutoTool is installed on the client, the hotbar tool is swapped automatically when the left mouse button is held on a block or a mob. A tool is chosen for the surface being broken, so a player does not have to switch by hand between an axe, a pickaxe and a shovel. A toggle on the F6 key turns the switching off and back on during play, and the feature is enabled by default.

The mod is configured through its configuration file, where the mouse-down trigger can be set to false so switching happens on a different input, and where the sword setting can be set to true to let the mod switch to a sword when needed. Some entities, such as flying or sleeping ones, and players on the same team are left alone so the tool is not changed against them. The source code is open on GitHub, and an issue tracker and wiki are also linked.

AutoTool is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21 under the MIT License. It runs on the client alone and does not need to be installed on the server. Its latest files, released on 2025-01-12, are version 1.0 for each loader.

Key features

  1. Automatic tool selection

The hotbar tool is changed to the one that fits the block or entity under the cursor, without any manual switching.

  2. F6 toggle

Pressing F6 turns the automatic switching on or off, so a player can keep a chosen tool in hand when needed.

  3. Configurable triggers

The configuration file controls the mouse-down trigger and whether swords are considered during switching.

  4. Team and entity exclusions

Flying or sleeping entities and players on the same team are excluded, so the tool is not swapped against them.
