Auto keep inventory

by UltraGamer135

Auto keep inventory sets the keepInventory gamerule on a world the first time it loads, so players keep their items after dying.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalCC0 1.0 Universal1.13 – 1.21.10

What it does

The mod is a very small datapack. When a world loads for the first time it turns on the keepInventory gamerule, and it records a hidden scoreboard value so the gamerule is not switched on again later in that same world. Server owners who want the rule set automatically without editing game settings by hand can use it. The server has to run it, while players may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a data pack, across 45 release versions 1.13 – 1.21.10, under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, which is not open source.

Key features

  1. Automatic gamerule

keepInventory is turned on the first time a world loads, with no command needed.

  2. One-time setup

A hidden scoreboard value marks the world, so the rule is not enabled again after it has been set.

  3. Datapack based

The logic is a small data pack, so it adds no blocks, items or menus to the game.

Questions

Does Auto keep inventory need to be installed on the client?

No. Only the server has to run it; a player who joins without the mod keeps the same behavior, so either side can skip the client install.

What the author says

A super-small and super-simple datapack to automatically enable the keepInventory gamerule when a world is loaded for the first time. Once it enables keepInventory, it will use a hidden scoreboard value to stop itself from enabled keepInventory again on the same world.
