Attribute Backport

by Sygikal

With Attribute Backport installed, players on Fabric 1.20.1 can read and change several attributes that Minecraft only added in later versions, such as block break speed and sneaking speed.

What it does

The mod brings attributes added in later Minecraft releases to the 1.20.1 game. Each one is exposed under the attribute-backport namespace. The player attributes cover block break speed, block interaction range, entity interaction range, submerged mining speed, mining efficiency, sneaking speed and sweeping damage ratio. A generic group adds explosion knockback resistance, oxygen bonus, burning time and water movement efficiency. Some newer attributes are also backported, and the author lists current attributes among those covered.

Attribute Backport is a Fabric mod for the 1.20.1 game version only, with a single build, 1.2.1, the latest file, published on 2025-09-15. It needs both the server and every player, so the environment is client and server. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source, though its source code is public. SkillZ requires it, so SkillZ users need this mod installed as well.

Key features

  1. Player attribute backports

Attributes for block break speed, block and entity interaction range, mining efficiency and sneaking speed become available in 1.20.1.

  2. Submerged mining speed

A player attribute controls mining speed while the player is underwater, backported from later versions.

  3. Sweeping damage ratio

The sweeping damage ratio attribute adjusts how much damage a sweep attack deals, as in newer releases.

  4. Generic environment attributes

Explosion knockback resistance, oxygen bonus, burning time and water movement efficiency are added as generic attributes.

Custom Entity Attributes (CEA) is server-side only, works on Fabric and Forge, and covers 1.20.1 – 1.20.5 under a custom license that is not open source. Backport Mayhem is a client and server mod for Fabric and Forge on 1.20.1 only, licensed as All rights reserved and not open source. Progression+ is client and server on Fabric for 1.20.1 – 1.21.8 and is open source under the MIT License, so it covers a wider version range than this mod.
