Async Pack Scan

by JFronny

Async Pack Scan moves the resource pack organizer's pack scan onto a separate thread so the screen stays responsive with many packs installed.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 26.3

What it does

In the resource pack organizer screen, the pack scan runs when the window is resized and every twenty ticks. When another mod hooks into that scan and lengthens it, the screen can freeze with more than a few packs loaded. This mod runs the computation on another thread and schedules a scan task on those events instead. The mod is client-side only, so only the player's client needs it, and it requires LibJF. Builds exist for Fabric across 1.20 – 26.3, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Background pack scan

The pack scan is computed on a separate thread rather than on the screen's main work.

  2. Scheduled scan tasks

Resizing the screen and the periodic timer queue a scan task instead of running the scan directly.

  3. Fewer lag spikes

Mods that extend the scan no longer stall the organizer, which keeps it usable with many packs.

What the author says

Generally, this is not a problem, but in the resource pack organizer screen, this scan is performed whenever it is resized and every twenty ticks. If another mod (such as Respackopts) hooks into the pack scan and increases its duration even slightly, this leads to major lag spikes and makes the screen near-unusable…
