Ambient Additions
by codyhuh
Ambient Additions brings atmospheric critters into a Forge world, along with crates and blowguns for catching them without harming them.
What it does
The mod adds fully animated animals, from corgis and starfish to shy crabs and miniature armadillos. Many of them fit into buckets, pots, bottles or bowls, which makes carrying them around simpler. A separate set of items sedates and crates any animal, including ones that are hard to catch another way.
Sedation depends on the mob's health. Each hit with a dart adds a stun, and the number of stuns needed rises with the mob's maximum health: 2.5 hearts gives one stun, 5 hearts two, 10 hearts three, 25 hearts four, and more than 25 hearts five. Once the threshold is reached, the mob stays sleepy for 30 seconds and shows sleep particles.
Ambient Additions requires Geckolib, so that library must be installed alongside it. The mod is a Forge mod for 1.20.1, with files for 1.20 and 1.20.1 on the release list. It runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and the code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, making it open source.
Key features
Animated critters
Corgis, starfish, crabs and armadillos wander the world with full animations.
Empty crates
Right-clicking a sedated entity with an empty crate captures it, and right-clicking again places it back.
Crate contents display
A crate holding a mob gets a new texture, an enchantment glint and a tooltip naming the mob inside.
Blowgun darts
Blowguns fire single darts that are charged like a bow, and each dart applies one level of stun.
