All But 1

by Haage

All But 1 lets a player take all but one item from a container stack, leaving a single item behind in the slot, for Fabric and Fabric API.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.5 – 26.2

What it does

The mod changes how a stack is taken out of a container. Holding down the All But 1 key, which is bound to a key by default, takes every item from a stack except one, so a single item stays in the slot as a placeholder. Players can open a container such as a chest and use the same action on its contents, which makes it useful for leaving a marker item in a slot or splitting a stack without emptying it.

The mod is a client-side only Fabric mod, so only the player needs it and a server does not have to run it. Fabric API is required next to it. The latest Fabric file is 2.2.0 for 26.2, published on 2026-06-16. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Take all but one

Holding the key takes every item from a stack except one, which stays in the slot behind.

  2. Placeholder item

The single item left behind acts as a marker, so the slot keeps a visible item after the rest is taken.

  3. Works on containers

The action applies to container slots such as chests, not only to the player inventory.

  4. Configurable key binding

The default key is bound in the controls menu, and players can change it there.

Use cases

Splitting a stack

A player can move most of a stack to another place while keeping one item in the source slot to show where it came from.

Who it’s for: Players who often sort or move large stacks between chests and inventories, and players who want a placeholder item left in a slot. The mod only affects the client, so it can be added to any server without server changes.
