Abyssal Decor

by starrysock

Abyssal Decor adds decorative building blocks for Forge and NeoForge, mostly in a Victorian and Lovecraftian style, plus several plants and foods.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverCC0 1.0 Universal1.19.2 – 26.1.2

What it does

Most of the blocks are built to look like vanilla blocks and follow a Victorian Lovecraftian theme. A group of plants is included: black mold spreads over dirt and log-type blocks nearby, while amaranth, bog apples, muckroot and spidercorn generate in specific biomes such as dark forests, mangrove swamps, taigas and deepslate caves. Blood coral can be bought from apprentice fishermen and grows further when bonemealed underwater. Cinnamon logs are craft-only and their saplings are sold by farmers.

The mod is still a work in progress. Its author describes it as a suite of unique decorative building blocks with placeholder recipes and bugs, and most of its blocksets do not yet generate in the world. Expect updates, and check JEI for recipes before building with an item. Players who want a fuller texture set can use a resource pack by Tatou8 instead. Abyssal Decor runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.19.2 – 26.1.2 across five release versions, and is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, which is not open source.

Key features

  1. Vanilla-style decorative blocks

Blocks follow vanilla shapes and a Victorian Lovecraftian theme for building interiors and scenes.

  2. Black mold spread

Black mold grows on plants and spreads onto nearby dirt and log-type blocks, while unstripped blackwood logs only spread mold.

  3. Biome-specific plants

Amaranth, bog apples, muckroot and spidercorn each spawn in particular biomes, such as dark forests, mangrove swamps and deepslate caves.

  4. Blood coral from fishermen

Apprentice fishermen sell blood coral, which grows further when bonemealed underwater.
