World Alive: Ambient birds and wildlife

by DaGreazeMaster

Players who want quieter fields and forests can add World Alive: Ambient birds and wildlife, a client-side Fabric mod that places particle-based birds, butterflies, geckos and insects in the world.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.20.1 – 26.2

What it does

Birds, butterflies, geckos and cicadas appear as particles and play sounds on the client. Birds flock together, perch and call out, and each species is tied to specific biomes: toucans in jungles, robins in forests, flamingos in water. Butterflies also spawn in most biomes, and two crimson and warped forest variants add their own species to the nether forests. Two gecko variants share the scene, one on trees and jungle ground and one on sand in deserts.

The mod also adds other ambient effects, such as mirages in deserts, distant players on horseback and distant boats. It is based on the Cosy Critters Creepy Crawlies mod and is listed for Fabric, with files for 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.2 and 26.2. The latest file is 1.2.1 for 26.2. It is client-side only, so servers run without it. The code is released under the MIT License, but the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Ambient bird flocks

Birds gather in groups, perch on branches and call out, with species such as the Barn Owl, Red Cardinal and Turkey Vulture.

  2. Biome-specific wildlife

Each bird and insect appears only in the biomes it belongs to, so a jungle, a forest or a desert each has its own fauna.

  3. Butterflies and geckos

Blue Morpho and Painted Lady butterflies, two nether forest butterfly variants, and two gecko types add small motion to the scene.

  4. Extra ambient effects

Mirages, distant horseback riders and distant boats add background life to the world beyond the animals.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players who want more ambient life in vanilla biomes on Fabric. Because the mod runs on the client alone, it suits single-player and multiplayer clients alike, with no server install.
