Wildbound

by atperry7

Wildbound lets players bind friendship with vanilla mobs, using an amethyst shard to turn a wild animal into a companion that follows and waits on command.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source26.1.2 – 26.3

What it does

A player tames a mob that vanilla leaves untameable by holding out an amethyst shard. Taming takes a few tries, and the amethyst carries a resonance that wild animals cannot ignore. Once bound, a companion follows its owner, wanders nearby, sits when asked, or stays put and keeps watch. Commands are answered in the animal's own way, and a puff of colour shows that the mob has understood what was asked.

Bound companions can be packed into an amethyst cluster, which holds the friend's name, mood and memories until it is set free on new ground. Shattering the cluster releases the bond rather than ending it, and the crystal can be stored in an ender chest as the safest way to keep a companion. Companions can also be sent off to gather, or left to roam around home and remember the way back until called. Drinking milk settles the gift effect a companion leaves behind.

Wildbound runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files exist for Fabric only, for 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3, with 1.4.0 for 26.3 as the latest file. The mod is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Taming vanilla mobs

Mobs that vanilla leaves untameable can be bound to a player as companions through the amethyst shard.

  2. Companion commands

Bound companions can be told to sit, follow, wander, or guard a spot, and they respond to each command.

  3. Amethyst clusters

A companion can be sealed inside an amethyst cluster that keeps its name, mood and memories until it is released.

  4. Advancement path

A full advancement tree marks the path from the first shard to the wider set of companion abilities.

What the author says

Deep in the glittering geodes, the old clerics learned a secret: a shard of amethyst carries a resonance the wild cannot ignore. Hold out a shard and create your bond. It takes a few tries (smoke means not yet -- hearts mean *yours*).
