Wandering Pets (Updated)
by wnyyyy
Wandering Pets (Updated) lets players switch tamed mobs between following their owner and wandering off on their own with a Shift+right-click.
What it does
Tamed mobs stop sitting still and following by default once the player toggles them. A Shift+right-click on a tamed mob makes it stand up and roam around, and the same action returns it to following. The toggle works on any tamed mob, and cats also alternate between sitting, sleeping and roaming on their own, which the config can tone down.
The mod is a fork of an earlier Forge mod, reworked for Fabric and NeoForge. It runs only on the server, so players join without installing anything. It also reaches other added creatures, and the file wanderingpets-common.toml holds the settings, including the option to stop cats from getting sleepy. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge across 18 release versions, 1.20.4 – 26.1.2, and the code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.

Follow and wander toggle
Shift+right-click switches a tamed mob between following its owner and wandering around the area.
Cat idle behavior
Cats rotate between sitting, sleeping and roaming, and a config option can stop the sleepiness.
Modded entity support
The mod scans for other added entities at game load and extends the toggle to those that use vanilla taming.

Use cases
Servers with many pets
Server owners who want tamed animals to roam their base instead of standing next to one player can enable the toggle for everyone.
Modded tamable mobs
Packs that add tamable creatures can rely on the mod to bring them into the same follow and wander behavior.
Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack authors who run tamable mobs and want them to wander, plus players on those servers who use the toggle.
