Vine Replacer
by cerubois
Vine Replacer changes what vines the world generator places: vanilla vines in trees and caves can be swapped for a block the server owner picks.
What it does
The mod targets three worldgen spots: the vine decorator that grows vines on leaves, the one that grows them on trunks, and the cave vines feature. For each spot, the configured replacement block is placed where the vanilla vine would have been. The block is chosen in the config, so a world can end up with stone, moss or any other block in place of vines.
Vine Replacer runs on the server alone, so players join without installing anything. It is a NeoForge mod for 1.21.1 only, with a single beta file, 0.8.0, published on 2026-09-01. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source, and it was first published and last updated on the same day.
The author describes the mod as a small, work-in-progress tool and notes that bugs may remain and that further features are not planned beyond the author's own needs. Requests for a specific change can be sent to the author, who has said that a missing function may be looked at. The code is MIT-licensed, so other people can change it for their own purposes.
Key features
Leaf vine replacement
The vine decorator that grows vines on leaves places the chosen block instead.
Trunk vine replacement
The vine decorator that grows vines on tree trunks is swapped for the chosen block.
Cave vine replacement
Cave vine generation is also redirected, so caves get the replacement block rather than vines.
Configurable block
The replacement block is set in the config, so any block can be used in place of vines.

Use cases
Custom vegetation look
A server can change how forests and caves look by swapping vines for a block that fits its theme.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want the look of generated vines changed without editing datapacks. Players need nothing extra, since the mod runs on the server alone.
How it compares
Simple Block Replacer is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for 1.21.1, but it swaps blocks in general rather than vines only. Moss everywhere is server-side only, with files for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11 under All rights reserved, and it is not open source. Not So Creeping Vines is client and server and is under All rights reserved, which means both sides need it.

What the author says
Have you ever wanted to replace Minecraft's worldgen vines with something else, just to find how obtuse and nigh-impossible the process is? Probably not. But I needed to, so I made this mod.
