Vanilla Backport Compat adds Vanilla Backport's leaf litters, wildflowers, bushes and fallen trees to modded biomes that lack them, for servers running Vanilla Backport.

What it does

Vanilla Backport Compat is a datapack and mod that brings Vanilla Backport's natural generation into biomes added by other mods. Leaf litters, which Vanilla Backport otherwise places in only three vanilla biomes, can now appear across a modpack's biomes, and leaf litters also generate in the Pale Garden biome. Vanilla Backport must be installed alongside it, and nothing else is required.

The mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and as a data pack for server platforms. Files cover 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the latest file is 2.2 for 1.21.1 on Fabric and NeoForge and 2.2 for 1.20.1 on Forge, all dated 2026-08-18. Only the server needs the mod to run, while players can join without installing it. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source. The author plans to add support for more modded biomes over time and is still fixing some inconsistencies.

  1. Leaf litter generation

    Leaf litters generate naturally in modded biomes instead of only in the three vanilla biomes that have them.

  2. Wildflower and bush generation

    Wildflowers, bushes and firefly bushes are placed in modded biomes as Vanilla Backport features.

  3. Fallen trees

    Fallen oak, birch and spruce trees generate in modded biomes, adding ground cover to forests.

  4. Dry grass

    Tall and short dry grass generate in modded biomes that do not already have them.

  5. Mob variants

    Warm and cold mob variants and wolf variants spawn in the biomes where the compatibility applies.

What the author says

This datapack/mod only works with Vanilla Backport 1.20.1-1.21.1 1.1.5 or later. I’ll be adding support for more modded biomes over time. It still has a few inconsistencies that I’ll be fixing.
