Vanilla Paxels
by Bluebird
Vanilla Paxels is a server-required datapack that combines pickaxe, shovel and axe into a single tool called a paxel, which can break blocks at the speed of the correct tool.
What it does
The datapack reads item properties added in the 24w12a snapshot, so every paxel is built from vanilla items without any custom code. Each paxel takes the material of its crafting recipe, and the same material and recipe layout apply to pickaxe, shovel and axe parts. A paxel breaks blocks at the speed of the correct tool, and normal shovel and axe right-click actions such as stripping logs or creating paths still work on it.
Enchanting, anvil use and netherite upgrades follow the rules of other tools: a diamond paxel can be upgraded at a smithing table like a diamond tool. Netherite paxels break blocks slightly faster than diamond ones, but the datapack cannot set a custom display name for them. The recipes are placeholders until custom components are supported in crafting recipes. The datapack needs the server to run, and clients may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the datapack variant is also available. The code is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and is not open source.
Key features
Combined pickaxe, shovel and axe
One paxel item replaces the separate pickaxe, shovel and axe in the inventory, using the same crafting pattern.
Correct-tool mining speed
Blocks break at the speed of the correct tool, so a paxel can handle stone, dirt and wood without switching items.
Shovel and axe right-click actions
Stripping logs and creating path blocks work on a paxel through its shovel and axe functions.
Enchantments and upgrades
Paxels take enchantments like other tools and can be upgraded to netherite the same way a diamond tool is.

What the author says
Since 24w12a introduced the abilty to allow any item have properties of a tool, I decided to make this datapack. Paxels are Pickaxes, Shovels, and Axes combined! You can break all of the blocks at the same speed as you would with the correct tool. You can make paxels out of any material using the same crafting recipe.
