Too Hard to Dig

Too Hard to Dig is a Forge mod that makes block breaking slower the deeper a player digs, and resets once the digger moves away from the digging spot.
What it does
Break speed depends on the height of the targeted block. Blocks lower in the world take longer to break, which gives players a mild push to explore caves or develop technical digging methods instead of tunneling straight down. The slowdown applies only after enough blocks have been broken in a row, starting from 12 and reaching its minimum after 16 blocks.
The mod keeps a dig counter. Two break actions at least 10 blocks apart in height reset the counter, and blocks tagged as ores neither count toward it nor get slowed. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files are published for Forge only, for the 1.20.1 – 1.20.4 range, with 1.0.0 for 1.20.4 as the latest file.
The code is released under the MIT License and is open source. The mod was inspired by Yung's Law 2h2d, a mod dedicated to Minecraft 1.20 and later.
