The Midnight
Players who walk into a dark dimension of eternal night find The Midnight, a Forge and NeoForge world-generation mod for Minecraft 1.12.2 – 1.20.1.
What it does
The Midnight adds a dark, hostile dimension that is lit only by crystals and by the native creatures living there. Players may enter it on purpose or be pulled in against their will. Access is through a Rift, and the way a Rift looks and behaves has changed between releases: on 1.12.2 and 1.14.4 a glowing red rift appears at random during the night, above ground or in caves, often guarded by unfriendly figures called rifters, while on 1.15.2 a crimson mass sitting in the overworld turns into a portal after dark.
The mod requires Lucent and SmartBrainLib, which must be installed next to it on Forge and NeoForge. The code is not open source and is released under All rights reserved, so the source may be used only with a link back to the mod page. Both client and server need The Midnight, because the dimension and its mobs are generated and simulated on the server while players see them on the client. Files are published for 1.12.2, 1.14.4, 1.15.2, 1.19.2, 1.19.4 and 1.20.1, with 0.6.7 for 1.20.1 as the latest file, dated 2025-05-27.
