TFC Punishment for Death
by Thomasx0
With TFC Punishment for Death, a player who dies in Terrafirmacraft carries debuffs and cooldowns into the next life, and the penalties can be tuned in a config file.
What it does
Terrafirmacraft already uses hunger, thirst and exhaustion systems. TFC Punishment for Death layers harsher consequences on top of them: after a death, the player can be given debuffs such as thirst, exhaustion, blindness, slowness and nausea, and the health, food and thirst levels after respawn can be adjusted. Preventing instant item recovery is one of the options, so the lost gear is not handed straight back.
The mod can also hold back the retained hunger and saturation a player would normally keep after respawning, and it can put body cooldowns in place. Its debuff durations and amplifier levels are set in tfcpunishment-common.toml, which can be edited directly or through the in-game config menu under Esc, Mods, TFC Punishment Death Config. A manual override can replace the default Terrafirmacraft behavior for health and hunger. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, both for 1.20.1, with 1.0.0.16 as the latest beta.
Corpse Mod is required when body looting and corpse cooldowns are enabled. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Death debuffs
Thirst, exhaustion, blindness, slowness and nausea can be applied after a death, with set durations and levels.
Post-death vitals
Health, food and thirst levels after respawn can be changed to match the difficulty of Terrafirmacraft survival.
Item recovery delay
Instant recovery of lost items can be blocked, so the loss carries a real cost.
Body cooldowns
Cooldowns on the body can be enabled, and they pair with the corpse looting option.
