String Dupers Returned is a Fabric server-side mod that restores a string duplication method Mojang patched, using droppers, trapdoors and hoppers.

What it does

The mod targets the string duplication setup that Mojang removed in version 1.21.3. Its author describes the solution as slightly jank, and it does not behave exactly like the old version. A dropper placed anywhere can be fed through a trapdoor, and shears are used on two trapdoors of the bottom slot type, so the duplicator works where the patched one would not.

Droppers need a block behind their left or right side to receive power, and an item dropped into the setup can be placed back. Placing a hopper below a dropper starts production at three string per second, one item every 20 ticks. The mod requires Fabric API, runs on the server only, and is released under the MIT License, which is not open source. Files exist for 1.21.8 alone.
